This program, in partnership with Fashion Institute of Technology - New York, offers the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the Milanese lifestyle, learning from fashion and luxury experts.
The MFI-FIT Joint Certificate Program is designed for:
- Graduates and university students, who want to learn and understand the complexity of the Italian Fashion System, from a managerial and multi-disciplinary point of view.
No particular pre-requisite in terms of academic background is required. We believe that a multi-disciplinary environment can foster the learning process, providing participants the right international setting for their experience at Milano Fashion Institute.
In particular, the Program is aimed at:
Identifying and engaging with key lifestyle brands in Milan, within historical and contemporary contexts,
Describing tools and strategies used by Italian companies to build, develop and support lifestyle brands,
Differentiating between intrinsic and extrinsic branding tactics, using Milanese brand case studies,
Synthesizing lectures, tours and conversations to communicate lifestyle brand building in the final oral presentation.
The “Milano: A Life in Style” Certificate Program is carried out in partnership with FIT – The Fashion Institute of Technology of New York, Internationally recognized as a top college for design, fashion, art, communications, and business, FIT is well known for its rigorous, unique, and adaptable academic programming, its focus on experiential learning opportunities, and its commitment to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The partnership between Milano Fashion Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology of New York is aimed at triggering innovation in the design of academic programs, thanks to the expertise of the Faculties, and to delivering internationally-based learning experiences for Junior Professionals , who want to understand the complexity of the fashion industry from an international perspective. Our vision is to investigate the international industry starting from the knowledge of the local phenomena, through the lenses of a global Faculty.
Graduates and university students can enroll in this program, in order to learn in depth the complexity of the Milanese Fashion System.

Industry-related experiences are the leverage by which knowledge can meet true understanding of the complexity of fashion phenomena. This Joint Certificate Program brings highly specialized faculty of the two of the most prestigious global institutions -- Milano Fashion Institute and The Fashion Institute of Technology -- together with successful managers and professionals to provide a contemporary, insider-based view of the Italian Fashion System. Exploring the issues of the day from a global perspective as well as a “glocal” view, the course delivers a set of compelling experiences possible only in Milan, and nowhere else.
Professors of the Milan Fashion Institute and the Fashion Institute of Technology, together with the testimonials of important professionals of the sector, explain in detail the specificities of the Italian Fashion Sector.
1. MILANO, A LIFE IN STYLE – DAY 1
The module introduces the Students to the course, with Keynote Lecture and intensive Guest Lectures, introduction of the Certificate and Group Project and the phenomenon of Milan as the European fashion capital, with a first visit.
2. FASHION & BEAUTY – DAY 2
The module is aimed at providing participants with insights and experiences from a hands-on approach through visits to an Italian Designers workshop, a made-to-measure atelier, and flagship and department stores. A focus on different department stores and the Brera perfume district is fulfilled with guest lectures on beauty brand building and innovation management.
Site visits may include: Milanese Department Stores, Luxury Concept Stores and Italian Design Brands made-to-measure ateliers, and Brera Perfumes District.
3. HOSPITALITY & CULTURE – DAY 3
The module explores the complexity of the lifestyle phenomenon of Italian Designer Brands, from the hotel and hospitality industry to the most visionary brand extensions, through a series of visits and talks with managers and art curators, in order to understand the antecedents and the evolution of the fashion phenomenon.
Site visits and on-site lectures from senior management may include: Bulgari Hotel, Armani Hotel, Marchesi (Prada Group), and Corporate Museums (Fondazione Prada, Armani / Silos).
4. ITALIAN FASHION CITIES: FLORENCE – DAY 4
The module is aimed at introducing students to the first Italian fashion capital, which still represents a pillar of the national fashion system. From the Ferragamo Museum to the most important examples of digital fashion companies, this visit will explore the contemporary and cultural aspects of the Renaissance city, allowing students to better understand the relationship between culture, fashion and history. The trip, fully organized by Milano Fashion Institute, will permit students to visit LuisaViaRoma, Gucci Garden, Ferragamo Museum, among others.
5. FASHION DESTINATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIGN – DAY 5
From the concept of destination shopping to the experience of internationally recognized luxury outlets, the module provides students with an opportunity to experience the visits with the most successful cases of F.O.C. in Italy, with a field visits and the understanding of the business logics for managing this retail format.
The course will provide the participation of several guest speakers and will conclude with a project work.
About the Director
Joshua Williams is an award-winning creative director, writer and educator. He has lectured and consulted worldwide, specializing in omni-channel retail and fashion branding, most recently at ISEM (Spain) and EAFIT (Colombia), and for brands such as Miguelina, JM, Andrew Marc and Anne Valerie Hash. He is a full time professor and former fashion department chair at Berkeley College and teaches regularly at FIT, LIM and The New School. He has developed curriculum and programming, including the fashion design program for Bergen Community College, that connects fashion business, design, media and technology. His work has been seen in major fashion magazines and on the New York City stage. Joshua is a graduate of FIT’s Global Fashion Management (MPS) program, and has been the director and host of the Faces & Places in Fashion lecture series at FIT since 2010.

The selection process will be based on the evaluation of the CV and the application form. The selection process takes place throughout the opening period of the inscriptions, and Applicants will be notified the result by 5 days from the submission of the application form.

After receiving the documents, Milano Fashion Institute will inform the applicant on the selection final result (admission or non admission).
In order to apply for the admission to the course, the candidate must be currently enrolled in a degree course or have a diploma equal to a degree.
The total cost amounts to € 1.600, payable as follows:
- 1st installment > 1.600 € on the acceptance of the application and no later than 13th September 2019.
Costs include the study material and the use of facilities of the Institute.

The installment is non-refundable. The participant is allowed to withdraw, up to the eighth calendar day preceding the starting date of the course, by submitting a letter (priority mail service) to the registered address of the Milano Fashion Institute, anticipated in any case, by fax and / or e-mail; if so, the participant is allowed to attend the next edition of the Course (if applicable) or another MFI Course, upon payment of price adjustment.
